Students and Alumni
Welcome to Career Services! New students as well as transfer and graduate students are encouraged to utilize the services that our office provides. We encourage you to stop by early in your academic career to introduce yourself and take advantage of these resources. The mission of Career Services is to link the college with the world of work and enhance our students' and alumni's ability to make meaningful career decisions. College Central Network (CCN) is a customized, on-line database where students can find information on a multitude of resources at the click of a mouse. It includes resume and cover letter writing tips and samples, interviewing resources, and the opportunity to post resumes, and to search local and national job, internship, and co-op postings. Employers can also search the database to review resumes and directly connect with students for job, internship, and co-op opportunities. To create a CCN account, go to www.collegecentral.com/sunyit and click on the Students icon. Job, Internship, and Co-op opportunities are available to students and are advertised on the Career Services website at http://careerservices.sunyit.edu/ under Recent Blog Entries. You may also contact your academic advisor to discuss job, internship, and co-op opportunities. Note : Remember to create a College Central Network (CCN) account to research current opportunities. Career Services Programming/Events include Interviewing and Resume Workshops and the annual Career Fair and Business Etiquette Luncheon. Additional workshops will be announced via the campus blog and email. Career Services Resource Room is equipped with computers for students use as well as various reference materials. Local and national books and periodicals are available which provide employer, industry, job search, graduate school planning, and career exploration information. Credential File is a service to students and alumni that provides for the establishment of a file for letters of recommendation. A credential file from a college or university is the most professional way for graduates to send their references when applying to graduate school or for a job. Instead of asking a particular person to write a reference every time you need one Ñ you ask them once to fill out forms that are placed in your credential file. Once established, this file will be reproduced by the office and sent to prospective employers or graduate schools. A credentials file is for those seeking internships, co-ops, and employment after graduation. In addition, seniors applying to graduate schools will find the service convenient as will individuals who write recommendations for them. Consulting Sessions are available for students and alumni to meet with a professional staff member primarily for the purpose of resume and cover letter critiques and career planning. Individual Career Counseling is an opportunity for students and alumni to talk with a counselor about self-assessment (skills, values, interests, and abilities), career decision-making, and job search strategies. Career Fair is a yearly event that provides students and alumni the opportunity to explore careers, to meet perspective employers, and to learn about full-time, part-time, and summer employment including internship and co-op opportunities. FOCUS-2 is an online, interactive career and education planning system that combines self assessment, career exploration and decision making into one comprehensive program. FOCUS-2 assists students to map out a career path and select an appropriate area of study to support their career goals.
